| | ICCG Lecture Series on Energy Poverty | | | The International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG) is pleased to announce the launch of its first series of video-lectures on Climate Change Governance, a key item on the global political agenda. The ICCG lecture series aim at promoting the long-distance training. To this purpose, the themes are treated in a very accessible way. They are targeted to the public at large and the world of policy making, in particular from developing countries where these issues are often under-addressed. The lectures are given by internationally renowned experts coming from both the academic and policy fields. The first ICCG lecture series tackles the issue of energy poverty. A new lecture on the theme will be available every week for five weeks on the ICCG website and on its Youtube channel. A second series on Integrated Assessment Models will be launched on April. | FIRST LECTURE ON ENERGY POVERTY |  | Defining and measuring energy-access and energy poverty Given by: Shonali Pachauri, IIASA, Austria In this lecture, Shonali Pachauri addresses the concepts of absolute and relative energy poverty, she explains how the problem can also affect developed countries and clarifies the difference between access to electricity and access to fuels. Moreover, she highlights the dynamics of energy access in the different regions of the world since the 90s. | ABOUT ENERGY POVERTY Reducing energy poverty in the developing world is a necessary condition to promote its economic and social development. 1.3 billion people in the world still lack access to electricity and 2.7 billion people rely mainly on traditional biomass. But extending energy access entails environmental implications. ICCG lectures series on Energy Poverty addresses the bi-directional relationship between energy access and poverty reduction, starting from the definition of the problem, reviewing the common measurement approaches, the needed resources and forecasting the future energy access technologies and scenarios for the decades to come.
