High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policy Convenes 12_March_2013: The High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policy (HLMNDP), organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), among other partners, is taking place from 11-15 March 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland. The HLMNDP brings together world leaders, government decision makers, development agencies, and leading scientists and researchers to discuss drought preparedness and management policies. continued... UNFF Releases Ministerial Roundtable Concept Notes 11_March_2013: The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) has released concept notes for each of the High-level Ministerial Roundtables to be held during its Tenth Session (UNFF 10) in Istanbul, Turkey. The Ministerial Roundtables, scheduled for 9 April, will address the themes of "Forests and Economic Development" and "Rio+20 Outcome and Post-2015 UN Development Agenda." continued... World Bank Report Addresses Deforestation Drivers in the Congo Basin 8_March_2013: The Program on Forests (PROFOR) has released a World Bank report, titled "Deforestation Trends in the Congo Basin," which examines the link between economic development and deforestation in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Republic of Congo. continued... UNDP, GEF Progam Tackles Drought Adaptation, Climate Change in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Zimbabwe 11_March_2013: Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Zimbabwe are addressing drought-adaptation and climate change through an ongoing UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) program, titled "Coping with Drought and Climate Change." The three-year program aims to increase the use of drought-adaptation farming techniques and coping mechanisms and to facilitate sharing of experience and knowledge among the four countries. continued... ICARDA Newsletter Documents Sustainable Agriculture Efforts in Drylands March_2013: The March Newsletter from the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) describes ICARDA's efforts to encourage long-term salinity management investments in Iraq's agriculture sector, micronutrient research in lentils, conservation farming in Iraq, and training on characterizing goat and sheep diversity for conservation and sustainable use in Ethiopia.  continued... FAO Updates Database of Agriculture, Forestry and Land Mitigation Projects March_2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has produced an updated assessment of the current status of land-based sectors in carbon markets through its Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture Project (MICCA). The report, titled "Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use Mitigation Project Database," presents analyses of project methodologies and sizes, as well as regional differences in project types and scheme development. continued...
