UK/Mex: Postdoc opportunity at Durham University - Urban Geography / Digital Geographies - Project: Smart Urban Resilience in Mexico

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Urban Geography / Digital Geographies  - Project: Smart Urban Resilience in Mexico

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Geography, with a particular emphasis on urban governance and the role of digital technologies in disaster risk reduction (DRR).

The post is fixed term for 20 months. This role is full time but we will consider requests for flexible working arrangements including potential job shares.

The research project 'Smart Urban Resilience' is led by Dr. Andrés Luque-Ayala and funded through a collaboration between ESRC and CONACYT, the Mexican science and technology council. It is a joint initiative between Durham University (Geography Department and Institute of Hazards, Risk and Resilience), Newcastle University (Global Urban Research Unit), CIDE-CentroMet (Centro Latam Digital and CentroMet-CONACYT) and the Autonomous University of Guerrero in Mexico.

The project's full title is 'Smart Urban Resilience: Enabling Citizen Action in Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response'. It focuses on the intersection between smart/digital urbanism practices and DRR, and seeks to determine how the smart city (and associated technologies) can enable or disable citizen action in planning for and responding to disasters and emergencies. The geographical focus for this inquiry is medium-size cities in Mexico, specifically the cities of Puebla, Acapulco and Queretaro.
