SDSN Launches "Roadmap to 2050: A Manual for Nations to Decarbonize by Mid-Century" | | | The Roadmap to 2050: A Manual for Countries to Decarbonize by Mid-Century report provides an overview of the latest decarbonization technologies available for national governments to populate their low-emission development strategies (LEDS) as outlined in article 4.19 of the Paris Agreement. Following the daunting projections of the 2019 Emission Gap report, it's clear that now more than ever companies, countries, and communities need solutions that scale. The report adopts a systems approach, aspiring to simultaneously address multiple objectives and promote both policy instruments and technological solutions that can be used across sectors. The multiple objectives span decarbonization and environmental sustainability, economic prosperity (including poverty reduction), and social inclusion to ensure no one is left behind. The report was written by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) with expert input from more than 60 engineers and industry leaders who participated in an April 2019 workshop organized around power, industry, transport, and buildings decarbonization. | | Low-Emissions Solutions Conference (LESC) at COP25 | | This year's Low-Emissions Solutions Conference (LESC) at COP25 will build on the findings of the Roadmap to 2050 A Manual for National to Decarbonize by Mid-Century report. By showcasing successful case studies with collaborative storytelling, LESC provides an area for collaborative brainstorming, problem solving, and knowledge sharing. Hosted is collaboration with the premier technical University in Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the 2019 LESC will bring together leaders and scientists from businesses, governments, and academia from around the world. The agenda will be built around low-emission technologies within the following clusters: Low Carbon Power Generation and Distribution; Zero-Carbon Cities; Harder to Abate Industrial Processes (steel, cement, petrochemicals, etc.); Transport and Shipping: Land, Air, Water; Systems Approach and Sector Coupling; and Defining Metrics: Ensuring Impact for Sustainable Development. Event Objectives: - To send a strong, collective signal of the urgency for post-2020 action to deliver the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
- To highlight potential solutions in the power, transport, buildings, and industrial sectors to achieve zero emissions processes.
- To provide an interactive dialogue and exchange for business, government, and academia to share action, innovation, challenges and lessons to accelerate progress.
- To highlight the role of a systems approach and the opportunities for sector coupling and public-private partnerships.
