In a recent workshop with ICLEI USA, city staff and stakeholders worked to advance bold goals, building on decades of success in cutting emissions, boosting energy efficiency, and preparing for sea level rise. How cities and communities can lead the Loss and Damage agenda As climate change impacts continue to worsen, the conversation around loss and damage is intensifying globally. Helping cities prepare for a future of increased climate mobility Climate mobility, the forced movement of people due to climate disasters, is a growing crisis. With rising sea levels and extreme weather intensifying, ICLEI USA members are seeking solutions to help communities plan, adapt, and respond to this urgent challenge. ICLEI Europe joins EU expert sub-group on the Nature Restoration Regulation Having worked tirelessly towards the improvement and approval of the Nature Restoration Regulation in joining the group, ICLEI will utilize its network and expertise for the preparation of solid, integrated, and effective policies to restore natural ecosystems. Local and subnational governments applauded at COP16 for leading role CBD COP16 may not have concluded as planned, but many meaningful achievements were made. Convened by ICLEI, the SCBD and Regions4, the 8th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities saw historic success, with over 1500 participants from 81 countries. Opportunities and Resources The Race to Resilience Culture ICLEI USA and ICLEI Africa, with support from the Climate Heritage Network, are now accepting applications for the Race to Resilience Culture initiative until 31 January, 2025. TOOLBOX Empowering sustainable energy: SESA Toolbox The Smart Energy Solutions for Africa (SESA) Toolbox provides open-access guidance on sustainable energy in various sectors. The toolbox assists local governments and relevant stakeholders in energy transitions by offering planning tools, guides, funding information, and policy support.   Upcoming Events Mobilizing finance for urban biodiversity In collaboration with the Berlin Urban Nature Pact (Berlin Pact), this final session of the INTERACT-Bio webinar series on "Access to Finance" will explore the outcomes of COP16 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and their implications for local and regional governments. The webinar will take place on 11 December at 9:00 and 16:00 CET. Scaling up urban climate finance through multi-level governance Co-organized by UrbanShift and UNEP, this webinar, on 4 December at 16:00 CET, will showcase the importance of multi-level governance in scaling up urban climate finance, linking thematically to this year's UNFCCC COP29 on climate finance and multi-level cooperation.
