Open call to Apply for OAS Scholarships for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies

The OAS , through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE) along with Western Kentucky University, The University of South Carolina Aiken, Michigan State University College of Law, and  Colorado State University  offer scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate programs –both on campus and online- in different areas of study. Citizens and permanent residents of OAS member states, with the exception of the United States, are invited to apply.

Prevention of Violence Through the Music: Lunch of the journal Music in Action

The event is aimed to state members and observer countries of the OAS, members of the sectors of culture, education, social development and public security. The journal, an initiative by the Inter-American Network for the Prevention of Violence and Crime, is comprised of eight case studies on how the teaching of music contributes to promote life skills - an important protection factor to the prevention of youth violence. Foreword is signed by the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro and by the tenor Placido Domingo. The event is Organized by the Department of Public Security, with the support of the Mission of Canada to the OAS and partners.

Registration Deadline for the Online Course on "Development and Management of Online courses"

This course is aimed at teachers, tutors, online trainers, and professionals interested in "e-learning" environments. The purpose of this course is to develop skills and competencies for planning, and managing all components of online courses: pedagogical, didactic, academic, content, technical and aesthetic aspects. The online study program last 15 weeks and is available only in Spanish and certifies 135 hours. Partial scholarships available. The course ins with the support of the School of Governance of the OAS.

The IIN Presents the Exhibition: "An Album on Rights"

The exhibition, based on the digital project of the same name, aims to promote the exercise of the participation of children in various spaces, in the framework of the 92nd Anniversary of the IIN and the "Americas Children and Youth Day". This activity is aimed at all audiences and is organized by the Inter-American Children´s Institute (IIN).

Open Exhibition "Del Sur, retratos de Punta Arenas y Valparaíso"
 

The Art Museum of the Americas presents the exhibition of the Chilean photographer Vicente González Mimica. In these black-and-white portraits of two cities in the south of Chile, he brings to light this concern with education as an instrument of uprooting.

Regional Conference on Gender Equality in Counterdrug Law Enforcement Agencies in the Americas

The Regional Conference on Gender Equality in Counterdrug Law Enforcement Agencies in the Americas will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The conference aims to strengthen the capacity of member states for dismantling criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking by emphasizing gender mainstreaming as a factor that improves effectiveness in counterdrug intelligence investigations and operations. This event is sponsored by Canada and organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD).

Open Application Period for Master and Doctoral Scholarships in Brazil

The Organization of American States through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE) and the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) are offering more than 500 scholarships to study Master's or Doctoral programs in Brazil to citizens or permanent residents from OAS Member States. Benefits include full tuition waiver, living and settlement expenses, free Portuguese classes, which proficiency is not required to apply.

Latin American Training of Trainers of the Universal Prevention Curriculum for Substance Use, Session II

The second session of the Training of Trainers for the Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) will take place in Asunción, Paraguay. The training is designed to meet the current demand for a comprehensive training package in the field of drug use prevention, based on evidence-based principles. This material was developed for coordinators, managers and practitioners in Latin America wishing to undertake a significant in-depth study of drug prevention.  Once trained, participates will disseminate the curriculum throughout the Hemisphere. It is sponsored by the United States and organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD).

Art Museum of the Americas Presents Rafael Soriano: Cabezas (Heads)

Organized by The William Paterson University Galleries, and curated by Alejandro Anreus (Professor of Art History and Latin American/Latinx Studies, William Paterson University) and Kristen Evangelista (Director of the William Paterson University Galleries), this exhibition features more than 20 significant artworks by Cuban-born painter Rafael Soriano (1920-2015), one of the major Latin American artists of his generation.

Changeover Ceremony of the Chairmanship of the Council of Delegates of the IADB

The Inter-American Defense Board will hold the changeover ceremony the Chairmanship of the Council of Delegates and the presentation of Major General Luciano José Penna, Brazilian Army, as the new Chairman of the Council of Delegates. The Council of Delegates is the highest representative organ of this OAS entity, which is responsible for preparing and implementing the policies and activities of the Board, in accordance with the guidelines established by the OAS General Assembly.

49GA: Finals, Expo, Conference and Awards Ceremony of the XIV Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) 

Young entrepreneurs from OAS member states will present innovative proposals in the following categories: "Startup Challenge", "Eco Challenge", "TIC Colombia" and the Caribbean Innovation Competition (CIC)". With more than 5,000 projects registered in TIC Americas this year, the program consolidates itself as a renowned support platform and business accelerator for young entrepreneurs in the Americas providing training, mentoring, seed capital and investment opportunities, as well as access to international cooperation networks.  It will take place in the framework of the 49 General Assembly of the OAS.

49AG: Discussion: MAPP / OAS, an Innovative Model of Cooperation for Peace

The Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP/ OAS) organizes this discussion to discuss the main characteristics that have made the Mission a hemispheric tool, successful and innovative, to support peace scenarios in Colombia, through the direct voice of local social actors and institutions and Government. This discussion takes place within the framework of the 49th General Assembly of the OAS and the commemoration of the 15 years of uninterrupted work of the Mission, accompanying and contributing "acts of peace" in the areas most affected by the armed conflict in Colombia.

49GA: Seminar: Innovating in the Fight Against Corruption with Open Data in the Americas

The Seminar is intended for Representatives of the different government institutions and non-governmental actors related the innovative collaborative processes in Open Data in order to fight against Corruption in the Americas. The participants will get to know and to explore specific cases and experiences regarding the use of Open Data, Co-creation processes and Innovative Solutions implemented in the countries of the region within the framework of Democratic Governance & Anti-corruption Agenda. Training Workshop to Strengthen National Drug Observatories in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Training will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, the objectives are to develop and strengthen research on the drug market and supply control in OAS member states. The training is aimed at researchers and technicians of national drug observatories and is jointly organized by the Inter-American Observatory on Drugs (OID) of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID).

Deadline to Register for the online Course "Strategic Planning with a Gender Approach"

This course, offered jointly by the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and the Educational Portal of the Americas, proposes a set of tools to incorporate gender approach in organizations, through strategic planning. The trainees will learn to consider the impact of public policies with a transversal gender perspective. Online program of 10 weeks of study, available in Spanish and certifies 90 hours. Partial scholarships are available.

The OAS, through the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment (DHDEE)  along  with the University of the West Indies, offer scholarship opportunities to complete the last two years of undergraduate programs in various academic areas, as well as postgraduate (master's) programs of one (1) year in Barbados, Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago. Citizens and / or permanent residents of the Member States of the OAS can apply.
